What is TWP?
In essence, TWP stands for: The Wilderness Project.
For years now modders have been putting forth a lot of great prefabs but the vast majority of them tend to focus on cities, towns and villages. We see this with popular mod sites and the existing compilations like Compopack, and creators who go above and beyond like ZZTong, etc.
Ever since Alpha 20 released, content creators who do overhauls have really stepped up their game as well. 7 Days to Die is not the same game it was just a few years back.
Projects like Undead Legacy, War3zuk’s, Darkness Falls and more breathed new life into the game and I even found myself last year diving deep into customizing maps for my own multiplayer servers. Anyone familiar with my work lately and probably see I rather enjoy making maps and have a pretty good amount of prefabs on the burner.
The thing that disappointed me I suppose is whenever you start a new game, you are generally dropped on the outskirts of a city and fight your way in. People tend to look at the wilderness areas as merely separation between them and spend very little time doing anything out there. Call me an old fashioned apocalyptic prepper, but damn it the cities are infested and who in their right mind would want to fight to get in?
Well, that's where this idea for The Wilderness Project got started. It's pointless to try to reinvent the wheel with work that other creators have already done out there, so I only seek to create an environment for myself and other creators to focus on what I feel the game needs right now.
I'm hoping others will come on board and users will enjoy the hopeful fruits of this labor. We will see.
What is the project for?
The goal is to create and make accessible wilderness biome only prefabs for 7 Days to Die, in categorized and easy to understand and maintain sections so that players and server administrators can tailor their maps and experience by filling in a under-utilized prefab type that is currently in the game.
How are they used, these prefabs?
Because of pending changes with the upcoming Alpha 21, they are going to be created and distributed in a modlet form. This will involve just dropping the package in your selected mods folder.
Who can participate?
Anyone can participate, and if you wish to create and submit prefabs for the project it will have to follow the project guidelines, be tested and voted in by the Wilderness Project community and team.
How do I become a team member?
By getting a few prefabs voted in by the community and expressing a desire to continue to create and maintain them within the project boundaries.”All Stars” will get their own subchannel on the Discord server and featured in promotional videos from time to time.
Can I distribute prefabs that I make for the project outside of the project?
Sure.
Can I distribute other prefabs that are in the project in other packages?
No- not without permission by the project team leaders. To clarify, if you have a package you give your players as a server administrator, that is fine, but packaging them for distribution on mod sites or including them in overhauls and things of the sort is not okay.
I want to start creating prefabs. where are the guidelines?
They will be available in the design–framework channel and also available as a document for you to keep handy.
I'd like to make suggestions. Where can I do that?
Project supporters have a channel available for continuous ongoing discussion about this- however you are free to make suggestions in the general channel but priority is given to supporters.
How do I become a supporter?
Right now, the most viable option is I set up a donation/supporter page for this. I don't want to set up anything privatized because I want full transparency for the project since support funds are only going to be used for maintaining the project test servers and other features for the community to use. You can also boost the Discord server.
How can I access the test servers?
For now I am going to limit the test server to verified creators and supporters. We may open up a public test server from time to time for events.
